Assassin’s Creed Codename HEXE, a flagship Assassin’s Creed game that is currently in development at Ubisoft Montreal (Origins, Valhalla), remains in early development but is on track for release in 2026, according to a new report that includes some new details about the anticipated game, such as its female protagonist, Elsa, and some of the supernatural skills that she will be equipped with. Ubisoft announced Codename HEXE in September 2022, sharing a logo that alluded to a witchcraft-themed installment of the franchise.

New details include:

  • Expected to be released in 2026
  • Launching on INFINITY, the new centralized hub for Assassin’s Creed games
  • Single female protagonist, Elsa, who has supernatural abilities
  • Abilities include possession, allowing players to control characters, including a cat
  • Set in Central Europe during the Holy Roman Empire (16th century)
  • Fear System from Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s Jack The Ripper DLC is planned for the game

A description for a piece of gameplay footage that was seen by one publication:

Elsa is seemingly being hunted by 16th-century German soldiers (image of what the soldiers look like here) and uses a spell to possess a nearby cat. The player then controls the cat and uses it to distract the soldiers by knocking over a glass bottle, which smashes on the ground and diverts the soldier’s attention. The gameplay provided to Insider Gaming depicts a dark and gloomy setting in the cobbled streets of the city.
