Alan Wake 2, the critically acclaimed 2023 survival horror game that Remedy Entertainment launched for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PCs on October 27, 2023, has yet to recoup all of its expenses, including those spent for development and marketing, according to new comments that Remedy CEO Tero Virtala shared this week. Critics say that this could have been avoided if Remedy didn’t launch the PC version of Alan Wake 2 as an Epic Games Store exclusive, but its absence on Steam was practically a given, having been developed under the Epic Games Publishing label.

In February 2024, Remedy announced that Alan Wake 2 had sold 1.3 million units as of the beginning of February. Alan Wake 2 sales have continued with a high average price. At the end of the first quarter, the game had recouped a significant part of the development and marketing expenses. During the first quarter, the team focused on working on the downloadable content (DLC) that will extend Alan Wake 2.
