Studio Ghibli Reveals Its First-Ever 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Release

The Boy and the Heron, the 2023 Japanese animated fantasy film written and directed by anime legend Hayao Miyazaki, will be the first title from Studio Ghibli to ever be released on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, GKIDS has revealed. This 4K UHD and Blu-ray two-disc set, which features Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, is available to pre-order now ahead of its July 9 shipping date.

Synopsis for The Boy and the Heron:

From the legendary Studio Ghibli and director Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away) comes an Academy Award-winning new fantasy adventure. After losing his mother during the war, young Mahito moves to his family’s estate in the countryside. There, a series of mysterious events lead him to a secluded and ancient tower, home to a mischievous gray heron. When Mahito’s new stepmother disappears, he follows the gray heron into a fantastic world shared by the living and the dead. As he embarks on an epic journey, Mahito must uncover the secrets of this world and the truth about himself.
